Lease or purchase the drilling unit your programme actually needs — sourced against your technical specification, verified before it is offered to you, and delivered through a compliant contracting structure.

 What We Do

Two Ways to Secure a Rig

GWPL Marine works on both sides of the rig market. Whether you need a unit for a single campaign or you are acquiring an asset for your own account, we run the search, the verification and the contracting.

Lease and Charter

We source drilling units for charter against your defined scope — water depth, drilling depth, hook load, deck load, accommodation, station-keeping and class status. We handle owner identification, availability confirmation, commercial negotiation and the contracting structure through to on-hire.

Purchase and Sale

We source units for outright acquisition, and we act for owners placing units into the market. That covers title and encumbrance verification, class and survey status review, inspection coordination, and sale and purchase negotiation through to delivery.

 Rig Types We Source

Built Around How Nigeria and West Africa Actually Drill

Our coverage is deliberately shaped around the units that work in this region — from the creeks of the Niger Delta to the deepwater blocks offshore.

Jack-up Rigs

Self-elevating units that stand on the seabed on retractable legs. The standard unit for drilling, completions and workover on the continental shelf, and the most widely deployed offshore rig class in Nigerian shallow water.

Swamp & Inland Barge Rigs

Shallow-draft floating units designed for creeks, swamps, rivers and shallow inland waters. Purpose-built for Niger Delta terrain that no conventional offshore unit can reach.

Semi-submersible Rigs

Column-stabilised floating units held on station by mooring or dynamic positioning. Used for deepwater drilling where a bottom-founded rig is not viable, and valued for motion stability in open sea conditions.

Drillships

Self-propelled, dynamically positioned drilling vessels for deep and ultra-deepwater work. High transit speed and large variable deck load make them suited to remote and extended-reach campaigns.

Land Rigs

Onshore drilling units for the Niger Delta and inland basins, available across the range from light workover to deep exploration, in configurations suited to available road and location access.

Workover & Hoist Units

Intervention units for completions, recompletions, sand control, fishing and plug and abandonment — land-based, barge-mounted or offshore-deployed, sized to the well stock being worked.

Snubbing Units

Live-well intervention equipment for working under pressure without killing the well, used where production deferment is unacceptable or well control conditions demand it.

MOPUs

Converted jack-ups and purpose-built units used for early production and marginal field development, where a fixed platform cannot be justified on reserves or timeline.

Accommodation Units & Flotels

Offshore accommodation for campaign personnel, hook-up and commissioning teams and shutdown crews, where host facility bed space is insufficient.

If the unit you need is not listed here, ask. Our sourcing network reaches beyond the categories on this page.

 Our Process

A Defined Process, Not an Introduction

Anyone can forward you a rig list. What determines whether a campaign starts on time is what happens between the enquiry and the on-hire certificate.

Technical Brief

We work with your drilling and subsurface team to convert the programme into a specification a rig can be measured against — not a wish list.

Sourcing

We run the search against owners, managers and operators holding units of the class required, and confirm genuine availability against your window.

Verification

Before a unit reaches your desk we confirm ownership and title position, class and survey status, encumbrances, and the credibility of the party offering it.

Commercial Structuring

Rate, term, options, mobilisation and demobilisation, payment security, liability allocation and the contracting form — negotiated on your instructions.

Regulatory & Permitting

Coordination of the approvals, registrations and clearances the deployment requires, and clear allocation of who carries the cost and the delay risk.

Mobilisation & On-hire

Tow or transit coordination, inspection and condition survey, and handover on an agreed and documented condition standard.

 Regulatory & Local Content

The Paperwork That Decides Whether the Rig Ever Works

A rig fixed on excellent terms and stalled at the regulatory stage is a loss, not a deal. We treat compliance as part of the transaction, not as something to be sorted out afterwards.

 Verification Standard

Every Unit Verified Before It Reaches Your Desk

Ownership and title position confirmed before terms are tabled.

Class and survey status reviewed against your requirements.

Encumbrances and liens identified before you commit funds.

Counterparty credibility assessed before specifications are shared.

Tell Us What the Programme Needs

Send us the scope and we will come back with what is genuinely available, what it will cost, and what it will take to get it on location. If nothing suitable exists in your window, we will tell you that too.
